Rooster Lays an Egg Script:
EXT. Farm -Establishing -Dawn
Silhouette of Farmer carrying a Rooster by its tail feathers, towards a chicken coup
Screen Right to Left.
INT. Chicken coup
Farmer plonks Rooster into Chicken coup in a row next to other chickens who are sleeping atop their freshly laid eggs.
ROOSTER
But farmer Joe I told ya I ain't a Chicken, I can't lay eggs!
FARMER JOE
And I says ya are ...now lay me a gat-dang egg right this minute or I’ll pump ya fulla lead!
Farmer Joe holds up his shotgun, cocks it & points it directly at Roosters head.
FARMER JOE
I'll count down from 3 and if i don't see an egg under yer butt, you've seen yer last sunrise
...comprende?
Rooster gulps then nodds his head in agreement.
FARMER JOE (CONT’D)
3...
Rooster concentrates hard, attempting a feat which for him as a male of the species is
biologically impossible.
Sweat pours from his brow, his eyes dart around in panicking desperation, his eyes lock on a Chicken within reaching distance with several freshly laid eggs under her butt.
FARMER JOE (CONT’D)
2..
Rooster has a sudden idea, he points at the door of the coup.
ROOSTER
Wait …Farmer Joe look, a Fox is tryna get into the barn!
Farmer Joe turns his head, keeping the gun pointed at Rooster.
In the moment Farmer Joe is turned, Rooster reaches under the Chicken sleeping next to him, grabs one of its eggs and shoves it under his butt.
Cut to Farmer Joe's POV to show a Goat gnawing on a post.
Cut Back to Coup Interior.
Farmer Joe looks back at Rooster with a gleam of anger, his grip on the gun intensifies.
ROOSTER
Oh just a Goat …my mistake.
FARMER JOE (CONT’D)
….1
Farmer Joe's finger starts to squeeze on the trigger.
Rooster jumps up revealing an egg under his butt.
ROOSTER
Well whaddya know ...guess I am a Chicken after all!
Farmer Joe picks up the egg and analyzes it, looking pleased.
FARMER JOE
That's right, ain't nobody foolin Farmer Joe!
ROOSTER
No of course not ...shame on me, won’t happen again!.
FARMER JOE
Now I'll be back tomorrow for another egg, and I expect all my chickens to produce an egg a day or its lights out ya understand?
ROOSTER
Of course Farmer Joe, one egg a day, you got it.
Joe exits the coup, closing the wire mesh door and locking it, leaving Rooster isolated in a
cramped coup filled with rows of chickens.
Zoom out to show all the other Chickens gazing intensely at Rooster who has now infiltrated their sanctuary and stolen from one of their own.
